Benjamin Alarie, M.A. (Toronto), J.D. (Toronto), LL.M. (Yale) is co-founder and CEO of Blue J Legal, holds the Osler Chair in Business Law at the University of Toronto and is a faculty affiliate of the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Professor Alarie has served as law clerk to Madam Justice Louise Arbour at the Supreme Court of Canada (2003-2004) and as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Toronto (2011-2015). Over the years his publications have appeared in numerous academic journals, including the American Business Law Journal, the British Tax Review, the Canadian Business Law Journal, the Osgoode Hall Law Journal and the University of Toronto Law Journal. He is coauthor of a number of books, including several editions of Canadian Income Tax Law (LexisNexis, 2018) and Commitment and Cooperation on High Courts (Oxford University Press, 2017). As co-founder and CEO of Blue J Legal, Professor Alarie leads the creation of next generation legal research tools that harness the power of artificial intelligence to provide predictions about how the courts would likely resolve particular situations.
