Principal Above and Beyond KM

V. Mary Abraham is Academic Director of the Master of Science in Information and Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) program at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies. She teaches collaboration, facilitation, information and knowledge in the 21st-century economy, networks and social capital, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

A knowledge management practitioner and thought leader, she has also built an international consulting practice facilitating collaboration, strategic conversations, and interactive educational sessions for a variety of for-profit and nonprofit organizations.

Active in the legal industry since 1991, she practiced corporate law at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and helped lead its knowledge management efforts. In 2013, she co-founded Broadli Inc., a digital startup that created Broadli, the generosity app.

Her report, Optimizing Law Firm Support Functions (Ark Group, June 2014), provides guidance to law firm executives on how to transform administrative staff from cost centers to strategic partners of the firm. She also contributed a chapter to Smarter Innovation: Using Interactive Processes to Drive Better Business Results (Ark Group, June 2014) and a chapter to The Talent Management Toolkit for Law Firms (Ark Group, August 2016).

Ms. Abraham is a frequent speaker and writer on knowledge management, innovation, collaboration, and technology issues. Her blog, AboveandBeyondKM.com, continues to win commendations and readers in the legal community and other industries. She also contributes to Thomson Reuters’ Practice Innovations column.

Joseph advises clients in multiple commercial industries, including health care, legal, insurance and retail, on cyber risk mitigation and management. Kevin joined WellCare as Senior Director, Legal Operations in October 2017.  In this role, Kevin partners with the GC to develop the long-term strategy for the legal department and align the team and resources against these goals.  Kevin and his team have primary responsibility for financial performance, technology, process and productivity as well as outside provider management for the Legal Department.

Prior to joining WellCare, Kevin was the Director, eDiscovery at Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), a franchisee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of IL, TX, MT, NM, and OK.  In this role, Kevin oversaw the management of all eDiscovery activities including the implementation of legal hold and document review applications.  Externally, Kevin manages eDiscovery for all litigation matters including document preservation and collection strategies.  During his time at HCSC, Kevin supervised HCSC’s discovery activities in the largest multi-district litigation in the country.

In addition to his eDiscovery responsibilities, Kevin directed HCSC Information Governance program.  In this capacity, Kevin worked with key stakeholders, including Information Technology, to ensure records retention requirements were known and incorporated into new and existing applications within the company.  As part of this role, Kevin led the Legal and Information Governance workstream during the six-month implementation of Microsoft Office 365.

Previous to HCSC, Kevin managed the eDiscovery functions at two international law firms, McDermott, Will & Emery and Winston & Strawn. In these roles, Kevin oversaw the litigation support teams whose role it was to process, analyze and host data for the firms’ corporate clients.  Kevin also maintained consulting responsibilities for firm clients participating in meet & confer conferences and drafting best practices for eDiscovery activities.

Over his career, Kevin has been a frequent speaker at regional and national eDiscovery conferences, including the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA), the Georgetown Advanced eDiscovery Institute, and the Masters Conference.

Kevin graduated from Princeton University with a Politics degree.

Bennitt is a subject matter expert in the creation and deployment of collaborative case management, ebilling and contract management solutions. Jane’s specialty is global ebilling. Jane works with law departments, insurance claims organizations, law firms and vendors needing assistance with requirements gathering around workflow and business processes, compliance concerns, designing and implementing automated solutions, data availability and quality, and creating metrics to support business process improvement. Prior to forming GLE, Jane was a Manager with Hildebrandt Baker Robbins. Previously she was the Director of Data Services at TyMetrix where she was the company’s first employee. So we can say things like "internationally-recognized," "thought leader," or "world-renowned" with a straight face? I'm Ryan Nier. I wrote this. I'm not internationally recognized. I'm the lawyer for Capital One's "Digital" line of business, which is a fancy way of saying that I represent a few hundred people working on exploratory banking technology.
