Svetlana Grigoryeva

Svetlana Grigoryeva offers strategic focus, technical expertise, and business leadership gained during her successful career in application development and architecture. As the Manager, Application Development & Architecture for Shearman & Sterling, Svetlana leads firm-wide application development efforts, which includes custom development and 3rd party applications implementation. She is a well-respected technology expert and maintains an exceptional level of knowledge regarding emerging technologies to help the firm provide best in class service to the clients.

As part of her present role, Svetlana provides application architecture direction and manages a team of 15 for whom she serves as a motivating and inspirational leader, shepherding the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to drive cost effectiveness and service quality. In partnership with C-level leadership, she gained adoption for service oriented architecture, systems data integration, BI analytics and visualization, mobile friendly responsive web applications, modern JavaScript frameworks and APIs, and AI.

She has extensive experience in implementing knowledge management, experience management, matter intake and conflicts checking systems, financial billing and reporting, legal, CRM, human resources and intranet systems. Under her technical direction, a new knowledge management system was put in place leveraging existing infrastructure platforms in a new creative way. In partnership with the firm’s business development team, Svetlana championed the implementation of Tableau visualization software to replace manual corporate governance processes. This effort resulted in saving hundreds of hours in attorney and partner time. Leveraging her commitment to innovation and in partnership with marketing department, Svetlana oversaw the delivery of a cloud-based merger matrix calculator, a business development tool with merger filing requirements rules calculations for potential mergers.

Svetlana’s dedication to driving the adoption of cutting-edge technologies is evident in all of her undertakings. She focuses her efforts on business growth, operating performance and cost containment, and service quality. In her previous positions as Applications Architect and Senior Supervisor, Svetlana applied her talents to build firm-wide relationships to achieve support for initiatives that included shifting technology from Java to MS SharePoint. She also pioneered, designed, and instituted data integration processes, including BizTalk data integrations and web services. A consistent theme in Svetlana’s career is her ability to serve as a proactive change agent with the technology and business acumen to define initiatives that deliver sustained, positive outcomes.

Svetlana achieved her Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from St. Petersburg Institute of Civil Engineering. She completed multi year certificate programs in computer science at St. Petersburg State University and Chubb Institute of Technology, NJ.

Alison is an eDiscovery advocate who leverages legal strategy and technology to discover the facts needed to help clients win cases, settle at the right value, resolve internal investigations, comply with governmental subpoenas, and complete due diligence.  She is known for her proactive, practical, efficiency-obsessed approach to discovery. 

Recognizing that most of the increased costs and risks of the discovery process come from too many disconnected stakeholders and processes, Alison founded and leads eMerge – a wholly owned subsidiary of the firm focused on providing clients with end-to-end, integrated discovery services.  eMerge’s lawyers and technologists combine legal strategy, advanced technology, and project management to manage data in legal matters. 

Alison is an adjunct professor of eDiscovery and Legal Technology at Emory University School of Law, is frequent speaker and author on eDiscovery issues, and serves as a dedicated legal resource for Troutman Sanders' lawyers and clients on the intersection of discovery law and evolving technology.

In 2015, Alison was the inaugural recipient of the Monica Bay STEM Leadership Award, was recognized as ILTA’s Technology Advocacy Professional of the Year in 2012, and has been selected as a Georgia Super Lawyer for eDiscovery (2015 – 2018). Alison is an active member of Sedona Working Group 1 where she assisted with the drafting of the Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 34(b)(2) Primer, serves as a mentor to law students through the Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity, and fosters rescue dogs.
